News Daily is committed to journalism that earns and keeps reader trust. This Editorial Standards & Ethics Policy outlines the principles and practices that govern every article we publish. These standards apply to every member of our editorial team — from our Editor-in-Chief to every Editorial Writer and contributor.

We publish this policy openly because accountability begins with transparency.

Our editorial mission

News Daily reports on history, science, technology, and the cultural questions shaping modern life. We focus on long-form curiosity reporting — stories that contextualize the world rather than fragment it into headlines.

We do not cover:

  • Partisan political opinion
  • Celebrity gossip or personal speculation
  • Speculative claims presented as fact
  • Topics outside our editorial expertise

This focus ensures every News Daily story is published with depth and care.

Editorial independence

The News Daily editorial team operates independently from advertising, sponsorship, and ownership interests. No advertiser, sponsor, partner, or external party has any influence over the content of our editorial coverage.

  • Sponsored content, where it appears, is clearly labeled and visually distinct from editorial reporting.
  • Our editorial team has no role in producing sponsored content.
  • Sponsors do not receive favorable editorial coverage.
  • Our founders and ownership have no veto over factual reporting.

Accuracy and verification

Every News Daily article must meet our verification standards before publication:

  • Two-source minimum for any non-trivial factual claim
  • Primary sources preferred over secondary or tertiary reporting
  • Quotes verified with their original source before publication
  • Numerical claims double-checked against authoritative data
  • Dates, names, and titles confirmed via reliable references
  • Headlines must accurately reflect the article’s actual content — no clickbait, no exaggeration, no misleading framing

If a claim cannot be verified, we either do not publish it or we explicitly note its uncertain status to the reader.

Sources and attribution

  • Named sources are preferred in all reporting.
  • Anonymous sources are used only with the explicit approval of our Editor-in-Chief, and only when the information cannot be reasonably obtained on the record. The reasons for granting anonymity are documented internally.
  • Citations are linked to original sources whenever possible, allowing readers to verify our work.
  • Aggregated information from other publications is always credited and never reproduced verbatim.

Originality and plagiarism

All News Daily content is original work by our editorial team or properly licensed content with attribution. Plagiarism — the reproduction of another writer’s work as one’s own — is grounds for immediate termination of any editorial contributor.

  • We do not scrape, rewrite, or rebrand content from other publications.
  • We do not republish competitor articles under our own bylines.
  • Public domain works are credited where appropriate.
  • Quotations are properly attributed and contextualized.

Use of artificial intelligence

The News Daily editorial team may use AI tools to support — but never replace — our editorial process.

  • AI may assist with research, fact gathering, draft preparation, and copy editing.
  • All AI-assisted content is reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by a named human editor before publication.
  • Final factual and editorial responsibility remains with the named author.
  • AI is never a substitute for source verification.
  • We disclose substantive AI involvement where relevant to the reader’s understanding.

Distinguishing fact from opinion

News Daily clearly distinguishes between different forms of editorial content:

  • News articles report verified facts and verifiable events.
  • Analysis articles interpret facts within broader context and are clearly labeled “Analysis”.
  • Opinion articles reflect the views of the author and are clearly labeled “Opinion”.
  • Feature articles focus on long-form reporting and storytelling, with clear factual grounding.

Headlines reflect the article type. Opinion is never published as news, and news is never framed as opinion.

Imagery and media standards

  • We use original photography, properly licensed images, or public domain media only.
  • All imagery is credited where required by license or publisher.
  • We do not use images in misleading contexts (e.g., file photos passed off as current event imagery).
  • We do not publish graphic violence, gore, or content depicting harm to persons.
  • We do not use AI-generated images of real people without explicit disclosure.
  • All embedded media (videos, audio, social posts) link to verified original sources.

Conflicts of interest

Members of the News Daily editorial team must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationship that could reasonably be perceived as a conflict of interest with a story they are reporting.

  • Editorial team members do not write about companies in which they hold a financial interest.
  • Family or personal relationships relevant to a story are disclosed.
  • Where conflict cannot be avoided, the writer recuses themselves from coverage.
  • Disclosures are made in the article when material to readers’ understanding.

Political neutrality

News Daily is non-partisan. We do not endorse political candidates, parties, or platforms.

  • Coverage of contested political topics presents the strongest version of each side’s position.
  • Personal political views of editorial team members do not influence factual reporting.
  • We do not publish political opinion under the News Daily byline.

Diversity and fair representation

We seek diverse perspectives in our reporting and treat all subjects of our coverage with dignity, regardless of background, identity, or belief.

  • We avoid stereotypes and reductive characterizations.
  • We acknowledge contributions from historically underrepresented voices.
  • We approach sensitive topics — including race, religion, gender, mental health, and socioeconomic status — with care, accuracy, and respect.

Prohibited content

News Daily does not publish:

  • Hate speech or content that demeans individuals or groups based on identity
  • Content that incites violence or discrimination
  • Misinformation, disinformation, or propaganda
  • Harassment, doxxing, or content that violates personal privacy
  • Sexually explicit content or content sexualizing minors
  • Content that promotes self-harm
  • Content that violates applicable law

Sponsored content disclosure

If News Daily publishes sponsored content, it will be:

  • Clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or “Paid Partnership”
  • Visually distinct from editorial articles
  • Produced separately from our editorial team
  • Not influenced by, nor influencing, our editorial coverage

Corrections and retractions

When errors are identified, News Daily corrects them transparently in accordance with our Corrections Policy. Substantive corrections are noted at the bottom of the article. In rare cases, articles may be formally retracted with a public explanation.

  • Spam and self-promotion are not permitted.
  • Comments may be moderated, edited, or removed at editor discretion.
